Notes to My Inner Overachiever

She Said…

Late last week I wrote about being emotionally and physically drained after working for a month in the public schools. Turns out I missed one. I have also been spiritually drained. In Matthew 11: 28-30, Jesus says:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

A lot of times I get so wrapped up in staying busy, doing for others, doing the right thing, being the servant I think God wants me to be, that I forget to listen, to pay attention to what God really wants me to do. I have been serving the wrong master!

The bottom line is this. . .if God is in this, our full-time RV adventure, and I believe that he is, then the getting there is not going to be a miserable, life-draining experience, and we don’t have to worry quite so much about the financial side of things.  That doesn’t mean we can just blow it off and not do the work he puts in front of us, but it isn’t all about the money.

So, in a footnote to that inner overachiever, time to stop letting work and my own self-importance separate me from God and what He wants for my life.

Working towards the things we love should include doing the things we love.
